ASA Targu Mures

The club that took shape in 1962 carried that origin straight into its name: Asociația Sportivă a Armatei. Under that banner the team hit its peak in the mid-1970s, finishing runner-up in the Romanian championship in 1974/75 and taking third place the following season.

A new side appeared in Târgu Mureș three years later, first as FCM, then renamed ASA 2013. It borrowed the old identity rather than inheriting it in law, and for a few seasons it played as though the original had never stopped: runner-up in the league in 2014/15, then a Romanian Super Cup in 2015. Vasile Miriuță took over and led the team into the Europa League.

What plays now, AFC ASA Târgu Mureș, was set up in 2021 and claims direct descent from the 1962 side rather than from the clubs that used its name in the meantime.
