Brezno

Brezno sits in the upper Hron valley. The Brezňania, as the town's own call them, have spent the following century mostly below Slovakia's top two divisions, never reaching either the championship or the Slovak Cup.

The one campaign locals still cite is 2012–13, when the club won the 3. Liga and went up to the 2. Liga. Reports of a follow-up third-tier title the following season or the one after are harder to pin down, and the club's honours list stops with that single promotion.

FK Brezno has not sent a player through to the senior national team, though its ranks have carried names from both ends of its history: Július Bruoth and Ján Zibrín among the 1913 founders, and Ján Gajdošík among those who wound down their careers there decades later.

The derby that matters locally is against FK 09 Bacúch, a fixture played with the intensity such short-distance rivalries tend to carry regardless of division. Matches are worked out in blue and white at the Mestský štadión Brezno, a 3,000-seat ground that has stayed comfortably within reach of the club's usual crowd sizes.
