Budapest Akademia U21

Two Budapest clubs, Újpesti TE and Ferencvárosi TC, are the ones Akadémia's supporters mark in the fixture list. People simply call it the derbi, or the rangadó.

The roots are older than the current name. The Magyar Atlétikai Club had run an ice hockey section since 1963, when it began as Központi Sportiskola. In 2015 that section became a new entity, MAC Budapest. It was renamed MAC Újbuda in 2018 and MAC HKB Újbuda in 2020. Since 2022 it has been Budapest Jégkorong Akadémia HC, usually shortened to BJA.

The results came quickly. The Hungarian Cup arrived in 2017. Then 2018 brought the Erste Liga title, the national championship and the Super Cup.

The 2022 renaming came with a move. After seven seasons at the Tüskecsarnok, the team went to the Vasas Jégcentrum, a rink that holds about 2,000.

Krisztián Nagy is the name that recurs in the club's records. He is its all-time leading scorer with 267 points. The imports have included Ian McDonald and Chris Langkow, but the scoring record belongs to a home player.

After a long gap the national title came back in 2025 and again in 2026.
