A second, quieter rivalry sits closer to home: since 2020 the Chargers have shared SoFi Stadium with the Rams.
The franchise did not start there. Barron Hilton put the team together in 1959 as one of the American Football League's charter members, tried it out at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for a single season, then moved it to San Diego in 1961. It remained in San Diego through Balboa Stadium and Qualcomm Stadium, before the return to Los Angeles in 2017 and the eventual move into SoFi.
Most of what the franchise has to show for itself dates back to that first stretch. The AFL Championship came in 1963, and the closest brush with a modern one was the loss in Super Bowl XXIX after the 1994 season. Dan Fouts and Junior Seau both have their numbers retired, 14 and 55.
