The stadium bears the name of the ministry that owns it. CSKA Pamir plays its home games at the CSKA Stadium, run by the Ministry of Defence of Tajikistan, a 7,000-seat ground in Dushanbe. For much of the club's history the games were played somewhere far bigger — the Republican Stadium named after Frunze, which held around 20,000 — and the move to the smaller military ground came only in the mid-2000s, once the club itself had come under the ministry's wing.

That arrangement traces back to a rescue. The club had gone to the brink of collapse more than once, sitting out entire seasons in 1996, 1997 and 1999, and it survived in 1997 only because the Ministry of Defence, under Minister Sherali Khayrullaev, stepped in and rebuilt it as SKA PVO Pamir. Before that it had passed through half a dozen names since being founded in 1950 as Bolshevik of Stalinabad — Kolkhozchi, Urozhay, Khosilot, Energetik — before settling on Pamir from 1970. Since 2007 it has carried its current name, CSKA-Pamir, as part of the Central Sports Club of the Army.

The red star on the badge marks that military identity now, sitting alongside the mountain imagery of the Pamir name it kept through the changes. Red remains the home colour, white the away kit.

The club's best years came early in Tajikistan's independent football era: champions of the Higher League in 1992 and 1995, with runner-up finishes either side of that in 1993 and 1994. The 1992 season also brought the domestic cup, beaten in the final by Regar-TadAZ. A return to a cup final came in 2009, lost to Istiklol. Since then the club has settled into the lower reaches of the podium, taking third place in the league in 2017, 2020 and 2021.
