A group of friends who had spent Carnival marching together in a blue-and-pink comparsa decided the same colours and the same company were worth keeping past the parade, and set about organising a football club on the corner of O'Higgins and Monro, in a stretch of Núñez that still counted as part of Belgrano. Meetings happened at the butcher's shop kept by Juan Di Pascuale, who became the club's first president when it was founded on 25 May 1906.

The blue and pink did not survive the decade. The municipality tore down the wooden stands built for the 1910 centenary celebrations on the ground where the club had been playing, on what is now Plaza Alberti, and Defensores de Belgrano lost the pitch along with, it seems, any attachment to the old colours. Red and black took over, borrowed from the Uruguayan club Misiones FC, known today as Miramar Misiones, and the vertical stripes have stayed ever since.

By 1911 the club had moved into Bajo Núñez, settling at the corner of Avenida del Libertador and Comodoro Rivadavia, and it never left.

The corner where the comparsa's friends first gathered is still, in effect, where the club has stayed.
