Dragons

The only conference title in Lane College's football history came in 1982, when the Dragons went 6–2–1 to take the SIAC Division III championship under head coach Neal McCall.

Lane was established in 1882 by the Colored Methodist Episcopal Church and named for Bishop Isaac Lane; the football team dates to the same year. In 1947 the Dragons were ranked 18th nationally among black college teams and were invited to play Bethune-Cookman in the Flower Bowl.

Games are played at Rothrock Stadium, known locally as Lane Field, in Cardinal and Royal Blue. The Dragons' longest-running rivalry is with Miles College's Golden Bears, a fixture that has produced its share of close finishes, including a 34–31 loss for Lane in 2021.

Fred Lane and Daryl Hart also made the jump from Jackson to the professional game.
