Frem

The men who met in Copenhagen in July 1886 were not, on paper, starting a football club. They called it the Fremskridtsklubbens Cricketklub — a cricket section of the Progress Club — and the cricket was partly cover. The founders were young supporters of the opposition party Venstre, and a sports club gave them a reason to gather. Football arrived the following year, and with it a new name: Boldklubben Frem .

The politics faded; the football did not. Between 1922 and 1943 Frem won six Danish championships, and added the Danish Cup in 1955 and again in 1977. The same decade brought two wins in the UEFA Intertoto Cup, in 1969 and 1977.

Then the club went bankrupt. Twice. The first collapse came in 1993, brought on by debt and allegations of fraud, and dropped Frem into the Danmarksserien, the third tier. The recovery was slow enough that a single season in the Superliga, in 2003–04, counted as an achievement. Money problems returned regardless, and the second bankruptcy in 2010 sent the club further down than the first — all the way to the Copenhagen Series, the fifth tier, where a club with six league titles began again against local opposition.

Two promotions followed in consecutive seasons. The red shirts carry thin dark blue hoops, as they have throughout.
