GOG

Arena Svendborg holds 4,500, a modest bowl for a club whose name has nothing to do with the town it plays in.

The 1990s belonged to GOG. Between 1992 and 2000 the club took the Danish league four times and the cup six, building a reputation as a producer of talent — Mikkel Hansen and Niklas Landin both came through the same youth setup that later shaped Mathias Gidsel. A 2005 merger with Svendborg TGI was meant to strengthen the club further; instead it ran into bankruptcy in January 2010, and the men's team dropped to the second division. Reformed as GOG 2010 A/S, the side worked its way back to the top flight by 2013.

The wait for another title ran to fifteen years. It ended in 2022, when GOG beat Aalborg Håndbold to the Danish championship and then repeated the feat in 2023, adding the cup and the Super Cup the same year. Those finals against Aalborg have since been billed as "den nye klassiker" — the new classic — the rivalry that now defines the top of Danish handball.

Thirteen Danish Cups sit in the club's cabinet, more than any other side has managed.
