Hertford Town

Hertford Town go into 2024–25 in the Southern League Division One Central. Alex Ward took over as chairman from Peter Sinclair in December 2022.

The club began life in 1901 as Port Vale Rovers, becoming Hertford Football Club before a merger with Hertford United produced the Hertford Town name. In 1908 it absorbed two more local sides, Blue Cross and Horns FC, and moved into Hertingfordbury Park, where it has stayed since. The ground's capacity is now given as 2,500.

Between the 1910s and the 1970s the Blues collected a long run of regional honours: the East Herts League, the Spartan League, the Delphian League twice over, and a set of local cups including the Herts Senior Cup and the East Anglian Cup. The Herts Charity Shield came their way six times, most recently in 2014–15.

Mark Halsey kept goal at Hertford Town for twelve years before he went on to referee in the Premier League. Scott Neilson started here in 2005 and later played for Bradford City, Crawley Town, Grimsby Town and Luton Town.

In the FA Cup, Hertford Town's furthest run ended in the Fourth Qualifying Round in 1973–74, beaten by Hillingdon Borough; in the FA Trophy they got no further than the Second Round in 1979–80, losing to Dulwich Hamlet.
