Lugazi

Lugazi FC are into their first season in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, having gone up from the FUFA Big League in May 2024 after beating Kaaro Karungi FC 2-0 to seal the title. Steven Bogere took charge in October 2024.

The club started out in 2010 as Kampala University FC, playing in the Luweero District Football Association, and only became Lugazi FC in 2020 once it settled in the town of Lugazi in Buikwe District. Yellow stands for sunlight and green for the Mabira Forest and the sugarcane plantations that surround the area.

Promotion did not come easily. The route ran through the Zonal Mini League in 2012/13, then the Buganda Regional League, which Lugazi won in 2022 before beating Kajjansi United FC in the promotional play-off to reach the FUFA Big League. Gerald Ogweti's 15 goals carried much of that push in the 2022/23 Big League campaign, and it was under Gerald Efiti, working as interim coach, that the club finally went up in 2024 — after Richard Makumbi had been sacked only five months into the job.

Captain Richard Ayiko leads a squad strengthened in 2023 by the arrivals of Savio Kabugo, a former Uganda Cranes defender, and Ronald Ssempala from Police FC, while Louis Anguti has come through the club's own academy. The fiercest test remains local: the Lugazi Derby against Lugazi Municipal FC, with Buikwe Red Stars FC completing a rivalry that runs through the district rather than the league table.
