«Scorpions»
The Patinoire de l'Illberg, also called Drassena, seats about 1,600. Hockey Club Colmar is the other local rival.
The Scorpions came out of a split. In 1997 the professional side, Hockey Club de Mulhouse, separated from the Association des Sports de Glace de Mulhouse, which had been playing since 1969, and took the Scorpions nickname. Eight years later, in 2005, it won the French championship, the Ligue Magnus, by beating the Diables Noirs de Tours. The same year the club went bankrupt.
The 2005 title did not end the story, but it did not secure the club either. Mulhouse stayed in the Ligue Magnus until 2023 and won the second-tier Division 1 in 2012 and 2017.
In 2023 the club was placed in judicial liquidation for the second time. Debts of roughly €300,000 had built up while municipal subsidies were cut, and the team dropped to Division 3. It won that division in 2025 and moved up to Division 2 for the 2025-2026 season.
