In 2026, the women's team of the club in Oviedo went up again. The She-Wolves, as they are known, first reached that level in 2015 and returned in 2023 before repeating the feat this year.

That side traces back further than the men's, founded in 1986 as Club Deportivo Estadio Asturias and renamed Oviedo Balonmano Femenino in 1999. Ana Temprano and Bea Aguirre both came through wearing that shirt.

The men's team, by contrast, was set up in 1993 by José Rionda, Paco Álvarez, José R. Villa and Fernando Pastor with a narrower purpose: to feed players up into Balonmano Naranco, then the city's flagship club in the top flight.
