PSV Handbal

PSV Handbal has played its top-flight matches at Thialf because Eindhoven itself has no arena built for the sport at that level, leaving the club to travel to Heerenveen for home games. The hall holds roughly 2,500 to 3,000 for handball, a fraction of what it seats for skating.

The club began in 1932 as an open association, taking in members beyond the Philips workforce. That openness is also where the nickname Lampjes comes from.

Success has sat mostly with the women's team. Between 1948 and 1956 it took the national field championship seven times, though the men did share the field title in 1950 and 1955. Indoors, the men's team won the first Dutch Indoor Championship in 1954–55, while the women's side later added Dutch Cup wins in 1980–81 and 1989–90.

The club has stayed in Eindhoven without a local rival to speak of; no other handball side in the city has operated at a comparable level.
