The final that keeps coming up in Hague handball circles is the one Hellas lost. Twice, in 1983/84 and again in 1990/91, the men's team reached the Dutch Cup final and came away empty-handed both times.

Handball was added to the club only in 1932, initially in the outdoor 11-a-side form. The men's side had its best season in 1947, taking the Eredivisie title in the old 11-a-side format, then waited until 2007/08 for a national championship under the modern game.

It was the women who carried the club through its strongest years. Between 1976 and 1978 they won three straight national titles, then added five Dutch Cups between 1980 and 2003. That run had faded by the 2010s, and by 2019 the women's team had dropped to the Hoofdklasse.

Local rivalry in The Hague runs through matches against HBS and WHC/Hercules, games still known as the Haagse derby.

Home games are played at Sporthal Hellas, on Laan van Poot, which opened in 1983 and holds 1,400 people.
