Miami University spent 109 years playing under a different name before the RedHawks existed at all. In 1997, the university retired the Redskins name it had carried since the nineteenth century and adopted RedHawks instead.
What the name change could not erase was the record of who had passed through Oxford, Ohio, on the way to the NFL.
Games are played at Yager Stadium, which holds 24,286, but unchanged in scale for as long as anyone still watching remembers it.
The football itself is older than either name: the university put a team on the field for the first time in 1888.
