Selestat Alsace Handball

Thierry Omeyer learned his craft on the handball courts of Sélestat before becoming one of the sport's most decorated goalkeepers, and he still holds a stake in the club that shaped him. The academy that produced him has kept turning out players since — Damien Waeghe, Mickaël Robin, Baptiste Butto among them.

The handball section began in 1967, set up within the Sport Club de Sélestat by Germain Spatz; it did not stand on its own until September 2008, when it split off under the name Sélestat Alsace Handball. Promotion to the top division came for the first time in 1990, after a second-place finish in Nationale 1B, and the club stayed there until relegation in 2009. Since then it has moved between the top flight and ProLigue on a fairly regular cycle: back up in 2011, down again in 2017, champions of ProLigue in 2022, relegated the following year, and champions again in 2025.

Its one appearance in a national cup final came in 1995, against OM Vitrolles. Domestically, within Alsace, the record is heavier.

The club's colour is purple, and its supporters are known simply as Les Violets. They watch from the Centre sportif intercommunal, a ground that holds 2,300.
