«Les Violettes»
Nothing on the Pessac schedule draws a crowd like the trip across town to CA Bègles. Les Violettes call it the derby girondin, and whatever division either side sits in, the match is a significant fixture.
The club grew out of a multi-sport union in Pessac, with the handball section dating to 1963. Promoted into the elite division, the women's team won the French championship in their very first season, 1971-72, beating US Ivry in the final. Dominique Trijoulet, who went on to become the most-capped player in the history of the French national team, played for Pessac in that era.
The title has not been repeated since. That changed in the 2022-23 season, when Pessac won the National 1 championship, beating Étoile de Morne-à-l'Eau 48-17 in the final and earning promotion back to Division 2.
Home games are played at the Salle Omnisports Bellegrave, which holds 1,100.
Les Violettes now compete in Division 2 Féminine.
