Treaty United

Limerick sits on the Shannon, and for a year the city had no side in the League of Ireland at all. What replaced it started from nothing except the appetite for senior football in the city: a new legal entity, a women's team playing from 2020, and a men's side taking a place in the First Division in 2021.

Even the name came out of a dispute. The founders wanted Limerick United; legal objections from the old club closed that off, and they settled on Treaty United, after the Treaty of Limerick.

The colours took longer to settle. The home shirt is royal blue with white sleeves and red trim at the collar and cuffs.

There are no trophies to describe. Tommy Barrett has had the men's team since 2021.

The Munster derbies against Cork City and Waterford FC carry the weight the league table does not, and Markets Field takes 4,500, of whom 1,710 sit.

In June 2026 the club announced it had acquired the intellectual property and the historic Limerick FC name, and will play under it from the 2027 season.
