Uralmash's youth structure had no proper competitive outlet until the VTB United Youth League gave reserve sides a league of their own, and in 2023 the Yekaterinburg club used that opening to set up Uralmash-2. The idea was straightforward: give academy players real minutes before pushing them into a senior squad built around the "Steel Monsters" name and the club's long Sverdlovsk pedigree, one that runs back through Sergei Belov, Anatoly Myshkin and Stanislav Yeryomin.
That pipeline has already produced a result worth naming. Vladislav Smagin led the 2025/2026 VTB Youth League regular season in scoring, averaging 18.4 points a game, and was moved up to the first team in July 2026. Uralmash-2 also reached the podium at the Yevgeny Bogachev Cup, finishing third in September 2026.
The team plays out of the Dvorets Igrovykh Vidov Sporta.
Where Uralmash-2 does draw its own line is across the city, against BC Ural.
