ZCU Academy Pilsen

The LOGSPEED CZ Aréna in Plzeň holds 7,536 people, 5,167 of them seated and 2,337 standing.

The students in question belong to the University of West Bohemia, the Západočeská univerzita, which gives the club its ZČU tag. In 2014 Vilém Franěk and Filip Malota started the team, backed by the Rector of the university and the Dean of its Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen. It entered the European University Ice Hockey League for the 2014/2015 season. Its colours are blue and white, and the name it goes by is Akademici Plzeň, or just Akademici.

The club now plays in the Univerzitní liga ledního hokeje, the Czech university ice hockey league. Its results there are defined by the finals it lost and the one it won. In 2021/2022 it lost the final series 1:2 to UK Hockey Prague. In 2022/2023 it beat ČVUT Engineers Prague 3:1 in the series and took the Jan Palach Cup. A year later it was back in the final and was swept 0:3 by UK Kings Prague. In 2024/2025 the same opponent knocked it out in the semi-final.

The current roster includes Kamil Hajšman, Štěpán Říha and Dominik Beer. Whoever wears the shirt, the arrangement is the one from 2014: a faculty, a rector's backing and a big rink lent to students.
