access ShoWare Center
Kent, United States
Formerly: ShoWare Center
ShoWare Center, now known as accesso ShoWare Center , opened in 2009 with ice as its first calling. The retractable cover installed later made the space flexible.
The arena sits in Kent, Washington, yet it found tenants anyway. The Seattle Thunderbirds moved in from KeyArena, bringing hockey to the building, and the Tacoma Stars followed with indoor soccer. The Seattle Thunder, a women’s football side in the X League, have also played there. The ground has hosted concerts and wrestling shows.
What stands out is not the capacity or the address, but the way the building has adapted. The $5 million renovation that brought the new ice cover changed the relationship between the surface and the weather, and the sponsorship shift from ShoWare Centre to accesso ShoWare Centre.
Inside, the seating configuration can be rearranged, and the natural ice surface is maintained by a dedicated refrigeration system.
