Centre Slush Puppie
Gatineau, Canada
Centre Slush Puppie sits in Gatineau. Where the old Robert Guertin Centre once stood, the new arena has replaced a familiar landmark with something designed from scratch. The facility opened in 2021. The old building was eventually demolished.
The most defining feature of the Centre is its layout. It houses four separate ice rinks under one roof: the main Slush Puppie Ice Rink alongside the Gérik, Desjardins, and Dilawri rinks. Each surface uses natural ice, providing 7,700 hours of playing time annually. This arrangement allows multiple events to take place simultaneously. The main arena within the complex holds 4,080 spectators, a capacity that has seen a record crowd of 4,033 during a game between the local team and the Saint-Jean Sea Dogs.
The Gatineau Olympiques, who play in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), moved into the building upon its opening. They left the old Bob after a farewell series, marking the end of an era for the junior hockey side. The club has since made the Centre its permanent home. Outside of sport, the arena has also hosted concerts, with the first major event taking place in 2023.
Located east of downtown, the building is part of the Vision Multisports Outaouais portfolio. It operates alongside another complex in the region, though the Centre Slush Puppie itself relies on natural ice rather than synthetic turf. There are no immediate plans to replace the facility or expand its footprint.
