Seven President's Cups is a good return for a QMJHL club, but the one that matters came in 1997, when Gatineau — then still Hull — beat the Lethbridge Hurricanes for the Memorial Cup, the only national junior title the franchise has taken. The same season produced the Jean Rougeau Trophy for topping the regular-season table, so the run was built on consistency, not a hot streak in the playoffs alone.

The club has carried three names since it started out in 1969 as the Hull Hawks, becoming the Hull Festivals the following year and the Hull Olympiques in 1976; the current name dates only to 2003, when Hull was folded into the newly amalgamated city of Gatineau. Wayne Gretzky owned the team from 1985 to 1992, and it was under his ownership that the colours changed to black, silver and white, borrowed from the Los Angeles Kings he played for at the time.

For forty-five years the team played at the Robert Guertin Centre before moving in 2021 to the Centre Slush Puppie. Across the river sits its oldest rival, the Ottawa 67's of the OHL — a cross-league fixture billed as the Battle of the Ottawa River, with the Alexandra Cup going to the winner.

The list of retired numbers runs from Jean Poulin to Guy Rouleau, but it is Luc Robitaille's #15 that carries the most weight outside Gatineau: he went on to become a prominent left winger in NHL history, and his time with the Olympiques is the one junior credit every account of his career still mentions.
