Centre Agnico Eagle, the arena that holds the Foreurs, has changed its name twice since it opened — first as the Palais des Sports, then as Centre Air Creebec. It seats 2,140 of a total capacity of 3,504.

No QMJHL team had played in Val-d'Or before 1993, when the league handed the city an expansion franchise for that season.

The closest rival sits about 100 kilometres down the road in Rouyn-Noranda. Games against the Huskies are known locally as the Derby de l'Abitibi.

Val-d'Or has taken the President's Cup three times, in 1998, 2001 and 2014. The 2014 title needed seven games against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. At the Memorial Cup that followed, the Foreurs fell to the Edmonton Oil Kings in triple overtime, the longest game the tournament has seen.

Roberto Luongo wore number 1 in Val-d'Or before the long career in goal that took him to the Hockey Hall of Fame with Vancouver and Florida; the Foreurs retired his number in 2013. Stéphane Roy's 25 went up two years later, one of four numbers the club no longer hands out.
