The Val-d'Or Foreurs sit barely eighty kilometres down Highway 117, and the rivalry that runs between the two towns carries the road's own name: the "Guerre de la 117."

The franchise itself is older than the town's claim to it suggests. It began in Montreal in 1933 as the Junior Canadiens, then moved and was renamed repeatedly — through Verdun, through Saint-Hyacinthe as the Laser — before relocating on 25 April 1996 and taking the name Huskies, a nod to the toughness the local mining community wanted reflected back at it.

The best of it came late. It was under Bouchard's successor that the Huskies won the President's Cup in 2018–19 and went on to the Memorial Cup, beating the Halifax Mooseheads 4–2 in the final. Noah Dobson, months from being drafted fourth overall by the New York Islanders, was central to that run.
