Cressing Road
Braintree, United Kingdom
The club has kept the old name, Cressing Road , even though the sponsorship board now reads Rare Breed Meat Co. Stadium.
The original grandstand that appeared in 1924 has long gone, and a storm in January 1974 took the rest of it away. The pitch was left bare for a season, and the club had to move its matches to a rugby club and a local sports ground before the stand returned.
Greyhound racing used to run on the old cinder track that surrounded the pitch in the late 1960s. The race track is gone now.
Visitors watch from a covered terrace on the Cressing Road side, while the Quag End and the Clubhouse End are open to the sky. A different figure of 6,000 is sometimes mentioned for a 1926 game, but the club’s own records stick to the lower number.
