EgeTrans Arena

The EgeTrans Arena in Bietigheim-Bissingen sits between two sports with very different rhythms. It opened on December 21, 2012, as a replacement for the Eisarena Ellental, which Stadtwerke Bietigheim-Bissingen deemed insufficient for modern standards. Schulitz Architekten designed the shell, with engineering by Arup GmbH.

The architecture is functional, shaped by the needs of ice hockey and handball rather than any attempt at monumentality.

The turning point for the venue came on June 10, 2019, when SG BBM Bietigheim and VfL Gummersbach played out a 25:25 draw in their Handball-Bundesliga relegation playoff. The arena, seating 4,517 for ice hockey, sold out for the occasion. That match drew the highest recorded attendance in the building's history, though the capacity fluctuates depending on the sport being played.

The Steelers arrived from the old arena in 2012, playing in the Oberliga-Süd after competing in the DEL2. Their presence keeps the ice in consistent use, while the handball teams — both men's and women's — transform the space for months at a time.

On August 8, 2024, a fire broke out in the sauna area, causing approximately €500,000 in damage. The ice surface was unaffected, and the sporting schedules resumed without disruption.
