Erie Insurance Arena
Erie, United States
Formerly: Erie Civic Center, Louis J. Tullio Arena
The Erie Insurance Arena looks like a piece of the town that refused to be torn down.
Inside, the arena is a flat bowl. The ice is covered by a mechanical refrigeration system, keeping the surface hard regardless of the weather outside.
The building has lived through several changes. It opened in 1983 as the Erie Civic Center, then became the Louis J. Tullio Arena before the insurance sponsorship took hold. A major renovation in the 2010s added a club level and expanded the concourses, pushing the capacity for hockey up to 6,716. Before that, the number sat closer to 5,000.
NOT FOUND for a single-event attendance record; the only mention of an overflow crowd relates to a political rally in 2023. The surface is artificial, maintained by the refrigeration plant beneath the ice.
