The ground in Urbanización Miraflores carries a nickname before it carries a description: El Mítico, the Mythic. It belongs to Portuguesa Fútbol Club, five times champions of the Primera División, and locals rarely use the formal name at all — they call the place Acarigua-Araure.

What the stadium is now was decided in stages, and each stage answered a problem. The 2011 works, paid for by the state government and inaugurated that September, were billed as a total recovery: new grass, waterproofing across every stand, rebuilt bathrooms, a gym, fresh dressing rooms for both sides, a transmission house. Then came the lights. Between 2017 and 2018 a system of 104 floodlights went up, and only at that point could Portuguesa put a match on after dark. The last round, in 2019, was the club's own money and had a narrower purpose — a doping control room, a press room, a room for press conferences, the referees' quarters done over again. Those are CONMEBOL licensing requirements, the boxes a club ticks before it can host Copa Libertadores or Copa Sudamericana football.

No one records who built it in the first place.

In April 2022 the club marked fifty years by bringing its old players back for a friendly on the same grass.
