The ground takes its name from Frederik Thielemans . It opened with a friendly against Ronse.
A full rebuild in 1967 brought dressing rooms and a press room and lifted the ground to around 16,350. Then the old main stand came down in 2008 and the replacement, with boxes and commercial units behind it, brought the figure down to what it is today — and lower still for a spell, once sectors were closed on safety grounds.
Those larger crowds came for European nights.
Football stopped and restarted here too.
