Waasland-Beveren

The name Waasland-Beveren stopped appearing on Belgian team sheets on 7 June 2022, when the club made way for a revived KSK Beveren.

Its roots are in Haasdonk, a village now absorbed into Beveren, where a side was founded on 1 May 1936 as FC Red Star Nieuwkerken/Waas. Renamed FC Red Star Haasdonk in 1944, it took matricule number 4068. In 2002 the club moved to Sint-Niklaas and became KV Red Star Waasland.

The move that mattered came in April 2010, after KSK Beveren — champions of Belgium in 1979 and 1984, holders of matricule 2300 — wound up its professional operation. KV Red Star Waasland relocated into the Freethiel, the ground KSK Beveren had used, and reappeared as Waasland-Beveren. There was no merger. Matricule 4068 stayed with the incoming club, 2300 remained active for the women's side, and what changed hands was the setting and the imagery: the two lions on the crest came from the old champions, along with the yellow and blue and the nickname Leeuwen. In Waasland itself they were the Wase Wolven.

The Freethiel held 13,290.
