About the player
The 2024–25 season gave Sieben Dewaele the run he had been waiting for. In his first campaign at Waasland-Beveren, joined on a free transfer in July 2024, he was a fixture in the side that won the Challenger Pro League title without losing a match, taking the club up to the Jupiler Pro League.
The route there was not straight. Dewaele passed through the academies of Club Brugge before spending eight years at RSC Anderlecht, where he signed his first professional contract in 2019. A hip injury then kept him out for several months, and on his return he found himself outside the plans of coach Frank Vercauteren. The loans followed: eight appearances at SC Heerenveen, then a season at AS Nancy-Lorraine after he moved to KV Oostende on a free transfer in August 2021.
He came back to Oostende in 2022 and stayed until the club went bankrupt in 2024, which left him looking for a new employer once again.
At youth international level Dewaele played for Belgium at under-16, under-18, under-19 and under-21, scoring once for the under-19 side.
