Oulunsalon jäähalli
Oulu, Finland
The address is Tuohikuja 6, a straightforward location for a local facility.
The interior is functional. A single sheet of ice measures 28 by 59 metres, maintained by mechanical refrigeration that keeps the surface hard through the long winter. The grandstand holds 500 seats, a figure confirmed by the City of Oulu, though some sources suggest a capacity of 700, likely accounting for standing room that is not part of the permanent structure. The surface is artificial ice, reliable and standard.
The arena’s history is tied to the teams that have called it home. For over a decade, it hosted Kiekko-Laser, a side that played in the Mestis, the second tier of Finnish hockey, before financial difficulties forced a rebranding back to Laser HT. That team remains the primary tenant, playing in the Suomi-sarja, the fourth tier. Junior squads from Kärpät and others have also used the rink for their matches.
What remains of the past hangs from the ceiling. The numbers of Pekka Rinne and Mikael Granlund are displayed above the ice. Both players came through the junior system of Kiekko-Laser, a local success story that began here. The arena has not undergone any name changes due to sponsorship, remaining simply Oulunsalon Jäähalli since its construction.
