Laser HT

The best season in Laser HT's history ended with promotion. Playing as Kiekko-Laser, the club won the Suomi-sarja in 2009–2010 and went up to the Mestis, only to file for bankruptcy in December 2011, midway through their first campaign in the second tier, leaving players and staff without pay. What followed was a rebuild from the bottom: the club re-formed in 2013 in the III-divisioona, the lowest rung of Finnish hockey, and set about climbing back. The Laser HT name returned in 2016, and for one season, 2017–2018, the team played as AIK/Laser HT after taking over a license from Uleåborg AIK. The long way back was completed in 2026, when a runner-up finish in the II-divisioona sent Laser HT back up to the Suomi-sarja.

The club traces back to 1997, formed out of a merger of Kiekko-Ketut and Limingan Kiekko, before folding into Kiekko-Oulu in 2005 to create the Kiekko-Laser side that would go on to win the title. Home games are played at Oulunsalon jäähalli, a 700-seat rink, and the team takes the ice in red, black, blue and white, a kit styled after the Colorado Avalanche.

What Laser HT is known for beyond results is what it has sent out the door. The junior programme has fed players into the Liiga and the NHL, and in 2013 the club raised two numbers to the rafters at Oulunsalon jäähalli in honour of its most famous graduates. One of them, Pekka Rinne, went on to a long NHL career in goal; the other banner belongs to Mikael Granlund.
