Riemu

The one league title Riemu's ice hockey side has won came in the II-divisioona's Savo-Karjala group, in the 2015–2016 season, and it came fast: the section had only started playing in the third tier, the III-divisioona, in the autumn of 2013, moved up a level after that first campaign, and then took the group with 20 wins against 6 losses for 60 points. The result carried them straight into the Suomi-sarja, the third rung of Finnish hockey, for 2016–2017, and they have stayed there since.

The team plays as Koirat, the Dogs, and turns out in turquoise, black and white at LähiTapiola Areena, a rink built for 4,612. Nobody expects a production line of Liiga players out of it — this is a hockey section inside a club run largely by students, and it has never sent a name up to the top divisions. What it does have is the derby against D-Kiekko Jyväskylä.

Those origins go back to March 2011, when students from the University of Jyväskylä's Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences folded existing outfits into a single multi-sport club. Ice hockey was not part of that first year.
