Titaanit

Promotion to Mestis in 2007 stands as the high point for Titaanit, secured by winning the Suomi-sarja that season after years of building toward it, though the club could not hold the level: an eight-game losing streak opened the 2008–09 campaign, arena troubles compounded the run, and fifteen straight defeats followed before Kotka lost the qualification round to RoKi and dropped back down. A first stint in Mestis had come and gone already in the mid-1990s, so the second fall carried the weight of a chance missed twice.

The club traces back to March 1974 and to a predecessor known as Sunilan Sisu, but its recent history has been one of repeated collapse and rebuilding rather than steady growth. Titaanit Hockey Oy went bankrupt in December 2009 under debts left over from the Mestis years, and the team that continued under Kiekko-Titaanit Oy went bankrupt in turn in 2013. What kept the name alive through that stretch was Titaanit Akatemia, running the senior side from 2013 to 2015 until the association HK Titaanit ry re-established the club under its old name.

Mika Iltola belongs to the club in a way few players do: its all-time leading scorer, later its head coach, with the number 22 retired in his honour. Simo Rouvinen holds the points record outright, 268 of them across 233 games. Among those who left Kotka for bigger rinks, Ossi Louhivaara went furthest, building a 729-game Liiga career and winning two championships with JYP Jyväskylä.

Lower-division titles came in 2014 and 2016, and a bronze medal in the 2023–24 Suomi-sarja playoffs suggested the club had found its level again. Home games are played in front of not much more than a thousand and a half spectators at a time, in the small hall in Kotka that has carried different names over the years but the same red, white and blue.
