JHT

Jussi Jokinen skated here before an NHL career and an Olympic medal with the national team, and the club's roster in the 1990s carried a reputation of its own: veterans out of Liiga turning up to play in a lower division, a run of signings local supporters still call the Kalajoki Phenomenon.

The team plays as Junkkarit, a name borrowed from Kalajoki Junkkareit, and its rivalry with Raahe-Kiekko has its own label too — the 8-tie derby.

JHT competes in Suomi-sarja, the third tier, with a spell in Mestis across the 2015–16 and 2021–22 seasons. The club won the Suomi-sarja title in 2018, then lost the promotion playoff to Peliitat Heinola and stayed where it was. Since then the finishes have circled the same result without repeating it: runner-up in 2017, 2022 and 2023, third in 2016. Promotion back to Mestis on the strength of the league table alone, rather than through a playoff loss, is the one thing still missing from that run.
