Rīgas Sergeja Žoltoka vidusskolas ledus halle

The ice hall at the Rīgas Sergeja Žoltoka vidusskola stands in the Dārziņš neighborhood of Riga. Construction began in 1987 to support specialized hockey classes that had been opened at the school eight years prior. The facility, which utilizes an artificial surface, has hosted the youth teams of Riga Hockey School (HS Riga) for decades. It is a modest venue with seating for 400 spectators, a far cry from the city’s larger arenas.

The building’s identity shifted in 2005 when the school was renamed to honour Latvia’s international player Sergejs Žoltoks, who died the previous year. The arena adopted the name simultaneously. vidusskola. The structure saw distinct phases of use: in the 1990s, it hosted the annual Sergejs Žoltoks Memorial Tournament, an event that has run since 2005. It also served as a match venue for local sides like Rīgas HS/Dinaburga.

On October 26, 2015, the hall became the site of a tragedy when player Salvis Stradiņš died of a heart attack during a game. The incident remains a sombre point in the venue’s history. While the school itself was reorganized into a primary school in 2021 and merged into Rīgas Dārzciema vidusskola in 2024, the ice hall remains in operation. It is located at Vietalvas iela 15.
