The Sandman Centre sits in the centre of Kamloops. The arena opened on 8 August 1992 to replace the Kamloops Memorial Arena, which had served the city since 1948. Construction began in September 1990 with a budget that would eventually reach C$18.5 million.

Its original name, Riverside Coliseum, lasted eight years before sponsorship rights were sold. The venue has since carried the names Sport Mart Place and Interior Savings Centre before settling on its current title following a partnership with the Sandman Hotel Group announced on 30 July 2015.

The playing surface is frozen ice, 85 feet by 200 feet, the standard dimensions for an NHL-sized rink.

In 2005, 464 new private box seats were added, bringing the hockey capacity to 5,464. The arena hosted the 2016 IIHF Women's World Championship, where the United States defeated Canada in overtime during the final, and the 2023 Memorial Cup, the Canadian national major junior hockey championship. During the British Columbia wildfires of 2017, the building was also used as an evacuation centre for residents of Williams Lake.

Renovations between 2017 and 2023 cost over $4 million, including $3 million for lighting, boards, and utilities, and $1 million for broadcast equipment. The highest documented attendance remains 5,580 for the USA versus Canada game on 28 March 2016.
