South Okanagan Events Centre

The South Okanagan Events Centre The building opened in 2008 after a long construction project. The structure itself does not change, but the arrangement of seats within does: the bowl can shift to accommodate different events.

The arena serves the local hockey community, most notably hosting the Penticton Vees when the club competed in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). The team's tenure here ended in 2025 when they moved to the Western Hockey League (WHL), taking their presence to a higher profile. Before that, the ground hosted the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in 2018, bringing curling fans from across the country to the dry, sun-baked valley. The three ice rinks inside are maintained by standard refrigeration systems, a necessity in a region where summer temperatures climb and the air feels almost still.

Outside, the chain-link fencing and concrete ramps suggest a functional, working building rather than a tourist attraction. The surrounding landscape is defined by dry hills and scattered housing rather than dense urban development. While the facility can expand its capacity for concerts or reduce it for theatre, the daily rhythm of the place remains tied to local sport and community events. The Young Stars Rookie Tournament continues to draw visitors, keeping the arena busy during the winter months. The building has not carried another name since it opened, and its modest exterior belies the mechanical complexity hidden within the roof dome.
