There is a patch of concentrated green just beyond the white lines, where a small crowd has gathered in training gear. It is a quiet scene, but the place has known louder things. The ground was laid in 1926, and the years show in the concrete. A strong steel roof stretches over the main stand, and the light glints off the glass blocks. The later date marks a shift in the construction, when the stadium moved 50 metres north and took its present shape.

Real Unión Club has called this home since the beginning. The pitch is natural grass, and the air that moves across it is the one that gets into the lungs. The stands are close, and the sight of the players is immediate. The capacity sits around 5,500, a fraction of the 15,000 that filled the original ground for a friendly against Barcelona on the opening day. That match ended in a draw, a result that did not settle the crowd but did not send them home either. The numbers have never reached those heights again.

There is a satellite dish on a wall and a television aerial on a post, small details that do not belong to the game but are part of the place. The name of the stadium does not change, and it does not need to. The game is played here on weekends, and the rest of the week the ground is still.
