Weigall Oval

Weigall Oval sits in North Plympton, away from the city centre but close enough to be part of the local rhythm. The land was bought by the council in 1920 and named for Sir Archibald Weigall, who served as Governor of South Australia for five years. While the reserve dates to that time, the sporting infrastructure often cited is a trotting track established in 1936. The venue served as a harness racing track until 2018, having also hosted motorcycle carnivals in the 1920s and 1930s. After the track closed, a $7 million redevelopment transformed the site into a multi-sport precinct.

Today the oval features natural grass surfaces for outdoor soccer and baseball fields, alongside tennis courts and a playground precinct. It is home to the Adelaide Omonia Cobras FC, which plays in the South Australian State League 1, and the Adelaide Angels Baseball Club, one of Adelaide's oldest baseball clubs established in 1908. The venue has not been renamed due to sponsorship and has consistently retained the name Weigall Oval since its establishment.
