The pitch at Wembley is a hybrid system, natural grass reinforced with synthetic fibres, a change implemented in 2011 to solve earlier quality issues.

The ground sits on the exact site of the original Empire Stadium, which opened in 1923 and was demolished in 2003. This new venue, completed in 2007, was designed by Foster and Partners and Populous, with the Australian firm Multiplex handling the main construction. The project cost £798 million, a figure that reflects its ambition to host major international events. It has staged the UEFA Champions League final three times, most recently in 2024, and regularly hosts the FA Cup Final.

The capacity is 90,000, a number that has not changed since the opening. The official attendance record for a football match stands at 89,874, set during the 2008 FA Cup Final between Cardiff City and Portsmouth. The stadium also holds a concert attendance record of 98,000, set by Adele in June 2017. The official sponsored name is Wembley Stadium connected by EE, following an agreement with the mobile network operator EE, first signed in 2014 and renewed in 2019 and 2025.
