Würth Arena

The arena occupies a flat stretch of land off the Brennerstrasse. Built to replace a rink that was demolished in 2008, the facility opened its doors on June 20, 2010. It is a straightforward building, with a capacity that sits at 1,200. There is no attempt to hide the numbers; the figure is confirmed by the Alps Hockey League, Elite Prospects and OStadium.com.

The ice is the central feature. While the ground outside may not look like much, the sound of a puck on the boards is distinct. The venue has been a home for HC Neumarkt-Egna. The rink also hosts the Egna Spring Trophy, a figure skating competition that brings a different kind of attention to the town in the spring months.

The address is simple: Brennerstrasse 7, 39044 Egna. The building has worn several names over the years, from Palaghiaccio di Egna to Sportarena Unterland, but locals still call it the arena. It is a modest place, not designed for international spectacle, but it has served the community for over a decade. The website lists the facilities, but the reality is found in the smell of the ice and the scan of the stands. It is a local hub, not a tourist destination. The facilities are maintained, the ice is fresh, and the seats are filled by people who know the game.

Würth Arena has never been a cathedral of sport, but it is a working floor. The capacity is small, but the atmosphere is tight. The club may be gone, but the ice remains, and the competition continues in other forms. It is a place where the game is played, not watched from a distance. The roof is high enough, the ice is flat, and the boards are close. It is not a stadium in the grand sense, but it is a ground all the same.
