About

Seven's World Series - Dubai 2

This fixture forms part of the HSBC SVNS, the premier global annual circuit for international rugby sevens. Established in 1999 by the International Rugby Board, which is now known as World Rugby, the series operates as the primary pathway for Olympic qualification. The top four teams in the cumulative standings earn automatic spots for the next Summer Games.

The Dubai leg, officially the Emirates Dubai 7s, is the oldest tournament on the circuit, founded in 1970. It serves as a traditional season opener. The competition structure has evolved significantly over time. Historically featuring 12 core teams, the format was reduced to eight core teams for the 2024–25 season. Further reforms introduced a three-tier system for 2025–26. Core teams are determined by annual performance, with the bottom teams facing relegation play-offs against winners from the second-tier Challenger Series.

The season consists of multiple regular-season events where teams accumulate points based on finishing positions. The top eight teams from the cumulative series standings qualify for the standalone Grand Final, a winner-takes-all knockout tournament that crowns the overall Series Champion.

In the 2021 season, the participating nations include Argentina 7s, Australia 7s, Canada 7s, Fiji 7s, France 7s, and Great Britain 7s. These squads compete within the broader framework of the global series.

South Africa holds the record for the most Dubai Sevens titles with twelve victories. Australia dominates the women's division with consecutive wins from 2019 to 2024. The current title sponsor is HSBC, which became the first title sponsor in 2010.
