The Singapore Sevens serves as a standing leg of the HSBC SVNS, a global circuit organized by World Rugby. This top-tier international rugby sevens competition is distinct from the Rugby World Cup Sevens and the Commonwealth Games Sevens. While those events are quadrennial, this series runs annually, featuring elite 'core' national teams. The Singapore leg was first hosted in 2002 and is organized by the Singapore Rugby Union at the National Stadium. The global series itself was founded in 1999 by the International Rugby Board.
The 2025 season included 12 men's and 12 women's teams, divided into four pools of three. Pool winners advanced to the Cup semi-finals, while other teams played in classification brackets for places five to 12. The series standings determine qualification for the Grand Final, with the bottom teams facing relegation playoffs against the Challenger Series. Historically, New Zealand and Fiji are tied for the most men's titles with four each. New Zealand leads the women's titles with two. In the 2025 season, Fiji won the men's title and New Zealand won the women's title. The current sponsor of the global series is HSBC.
The competition brings together core teams such as Argentina 7s, Australia 7s, Fiji 7s, France 7s, Great Britain 7s, and Ireland 7s. It remains a key fixture in the international rugby calendar, differing from other major tournaments by its annual format and core team structure. The event continues to attract significant attention due to its position within the broader World Rugby Sevens Series.
