About

The HSBC SVNS Women's Series occupies the summit of international rugby sevens. Governed by World Rugby, the circuit was established in 2012 as the premier global stage for the sport. It sits above the second-tier HSBC SVNS 2 and third-tier HSBC SVNS 3.

The season operates as an annual circuit, typically running from November to June. Each stop features a group stage followed by knockout rounds across Cup, Plate, and Bowl competitions. Points accumulate throughout the year to determine the series champion. New Zealand holds the record for success, having won the inaugural title in 2012–13 and the 2024–25 championship.

The format distinguishes itself from the men's equivalent through fewer rounds and core teams. Unlike the Olympics, which is a quadrennial single event, this series is a continuous annual competition.

For the 2025/2026 season, the top tier features eight core teams. These include Australia 7s W, Brazil 7s W, Canada 7s W, Fiji 7s W, France 7s W, and Great Britain Sevens Women. The Dubai event serves as the opener for the top tier in November. It also hosts the third-tier qualifier in January.

Promotion and relegation define the new structure. The top two teams from SVNS 3 move to SVNS 2, while the top four from SVNS 2 qualify for the premier SVNS 1 division. This system ensures a competitive hierarchy across all levels of the game. The circuit continues to evolve, maintaining its status as the highest level of international sevens rugby for women.
