Arzach and Zinn Share Points in Heated Conference League Clash
Arzach held on for a 2:2 draw against Zinn in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League on Wednesday evening. The hosts took the lead through a penalty before Zinn responded with two goals, one of them after Arzach's defender had been sent off. By then the match had already taken on a different complexion.
Helder Ferreira opened the scoring from the spot in the fifth minute, giving Arzach an early advantage. Zinn equalised through W. Boteli thirteen minutes in, and then G. Manvelyan restored the home side's lead in the twentieth minute. That was the moment many would have expected Arzach to be comfortable, but the game was far from settled.
The turning point came in the twenty-sixth minute when Zinn's N. Hefti received his second yellow card and was dismissed. Arzach should have been able to take control, but they lost their own defender, S. Mambo, to a red card in the sixty-fourth minute. The match became increasingly open as both sides had to make changes. Arzach brought on D. Sualehe at half-time, while Zinn replaced R. Nivokazi in the thirtieth minute.
Zinn's I. Chouaref scored in the fifty-seventh minute to level the scores again, and that proved to be the final goal. Both teams made several substitutions in the second half as they searched for a winner. Arzach's W. Boteli was replaced by M. Lazetic in the sixtieth minute, and G. Manvelyan came off in the sixty-seventh for the hosts.
The statistics tell a story of two different approaches. Arzach dominated possession with 53 per cent and created 126 attacks, but their expected goals figure of 1.52 did not translate into more than two goals. Zinn, with only 47 per cent possession, registered an xG of 1.84 and managed to convert their chances despite making fewer attacks.
Both teams were reduced to ten men, and the final minutes were frantic as each side looked for a late winner. The draw means neither club advances immediately, and the tie remains to be decided on aggregate. Arzach's recent form had been strong, but Zinn's resilience after going behind twice showed character.
The result leaves both teams in a difficult position for the next stage. Arzach dominated possession but could not find a way through a well-organised defence, while Zinn made the most of their opportunities despite playing with ten men for a significant period. The Conference League dream continues for both sides.
