Bergantíos saw off Leiáo 5-0 in the Round of 32 of the Federation Cup on September 9th, 2026. The home side made light work of what looked like an uneven contest from the start. To be fair, the visitors had little to suggest otherwise.
Leiáo's recent record hardly inspired confidence. They had gone through to receive a 0-11 hammering from Athletic in July, and before that a 2-3 defeat to Laredo. There were draws with Escobedo and Gernika in between, but losses were the pattern. By then, Bergantíos had won two of their last three games, including a 4-2 victory over Marino de Luánco.
The scoreline tells you everything. Bergantíos came out and took their chances without fuss. Five goals, none to show for the visitors. And here's the thing — when a team concedes five without reply, it rarely takes much effort to work out why.
The home side's form had been patchy before this. They lost 0-2 to Urense and 0-1 to Racing Ferrol, but bounced back with wins against Estradense and Celta Vigo II. This result puts them through to the next round, where the competition tightens. Cup football has its own rules, and Bergantíos have proved they can handle the occasion.
